XM Trading Hours
XM Trading Hours
XM’s trading hours run from early Monday morning to early Saturday morning, aligning with the opening hours of major foreign exchange markets worldwide. Trading is available nearly 24 hours a day, except during scheduled maintenance periods. Cryptocurrency CFDs, in particular, are generally available for trading 24/7, including weekends. Please note that trading hours may vary by product and can change due to factors such as daylight saving time adjustments in different countries, as well as national and New Year holidays.
In the FX market, which operates 24 hours a day on weekdays, each country’s market opens and closes in succession throughout the day. Understanding the most active trading periods is therefore extremely important. We recommend familiarizing yourself with the characteristics and trends of each market and focusing your trading on the times that offer the greatest opportunities within the 24-hour cycle.

XM’s transition periods between summer time and winter time
XM trading hours follow two different time zones: Daylight Saving Time (GMT+3) and Standard (Winter) Time (GMT+2). Daylight Saving Time moves the clock forward by one hour during the summer months to make better use of daylight. As a result, trading hours and economic indicator releases occur one hour earlier than during Standard Time, so please keep this in mind when trading with XM.
The switch between summer time and winter time varies by country. In Cyprus, where XM’s headquarters are located, the change occurs at the times shown below. At XM, the time displayed on MT4/MT5 will be adjusted by one hour accordingly.

XM MT4/MT5 Server Time and Its Correspondence to Japan Time
XMTrading’s MT4 (MetaTrader 4) and MT5 (MetaTrader 5) operate on Cyprus standard time, where XM’s headquarters are located. Therefore, when checking Japan time on XM’s MT4/MT5, you will need to account for the time difference between Japan and Cyprus.
Cyprus time is GMT+2 (GMT+3 during daylight saving time), while Japan time is GMT+9. This means the time difference is 7 hours (6 hours during daylight saving time). To convert MT4/MT5 server time to Japan time, simply add 7 hours during standard time and 6 hours during daylight saving time.

Between Christmas and New Year, many traders close their positions and take holidays, leading to lower trading volumes and increased market volatility. Please exercise caution and apply proper risk management when trading during this period.
-
Please note that XM’s Support Desk opening hours may vary during the New Year holidays.
-
Even during the New Year holidays, you can open an account, submit identification documents, and make deposits by credit card. However, depending on the deposit method, some services may be restricted during this period. Please refer to the service information of each provider for details.
After-Hours Trading
XMTrading does not permit orders or settlements outside trading hours. However, since the market continues to move even during these periods, significant fluctuations may occur, leading to a large difference between the weekend closing price and the opening price of the following week. This phenomenon is known as a ‘gap.’
Outside XM’s trading hours, not only are regular orders and settlements not executed, but limit orders, stop-loss orders, and forced stop-loss orders are also inactive. As a result, when a gap occurs, settlements may be executed at prices far from the stop-loss level, potentially causing unexpected losses. To avoid such losses, exercise caution and consider closing positions before holidays such as weekends, Christmas, and New Year.
-
At XM, chart movements may occur up to 5 minutes before the market opens and 10 minutes after it closes. Please note that even during these movements, you cannot place orders or execute settlements.
XMTrading allows forex trading 24 hours a day, five days a week, excluding Saturdays and Sundays, giving you access to global markets throughout the day. Cryptocurrency CFDs, however, can be traded 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends.
For more information on XM’s weekend trading and deposit/withdrawal rules, click here.
Trading hours for each country’s market
Unlike stocks, the foreign exchange market does not have a centralized exchange. The term ‘XX market’ refers to a major global city where trading is most active during a specific time period. Forex trading is available 24 hours a day as markets around the world open in succession. Each country’s market has its own local currencies and peak trading periods.
-
The opening and closing times of each country’s markets vary depending on whether daylight saving time is in effect. For this reason, the trading hours above are presented according to general time zones.
Features of Oceania Trading Hours
Oceania trading hours begin around 5:00 AM when markets in Wellington, New Zealand, and Sydney, Australia, open. This period typically has the fewest market participants and the smallest price movements of the day. Due to the low trading volume, spreads tend to widen and sudden price fluctuations are more likely, earning this period the nickname the ‘devil’s hour.’
Since Oceania time marks the opening of the forex market, major news over the weekend can cause the Monday opening price to fluctuate significantly compared to the weekend closing price. Please note that stop-loss orders are not executed on weekends, as this is outside trading hours.
Features of Tokyo Trading Hours
Tokyo trading hours begin around 8:00 AM when the Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore markets open sequentially. During this period, currency pairs related to China and Oceania tend to be more active, while Western currencies typically exhibit calmer movements.
The ‘mid-price’—the base rate set by each financial institution for the day—is determined around 9:55 AM Tokyo time. Prices often move more actively around this announcement, making short-term trades targeting the mid-price popular. Additionally, the 5th and 0th days of the month, known as ‘Gotoubi’ (the 50th day), are common settlement dates for Japanese companies, which can increase activity in the dollar/yen exchange rate for overseas payments. After 10:00 AM, once the mid-price has been announced, prices generally stabilize and remain calmer until European trading hours.
Features of European (London) Trading Hours
European (London) trading hours begin around 3:00 PM as European markets open sequentially, with the London market—home to the world’s largest trading volume—opening around 5:00 PM. This period is generally more volatile than Tokyo trading hours, as higher market participation leads to increased price movements.
In particular, European currency pairs such as the euro and pound tend to experience stronger price movements, often moving in the opposite direction to Tokyo time. Market activity usually calms somewhat around 7:00 PM, but after 10:00 PM—when European trading overlaps with New York time—activity reaches its peak for the day.
Features of New York Trading Hours
New York trading hours begin around 10:00 PM when the New York market opens, with the US dollar—an influential currency—traded actively. Market participation peaks during this period, making it the most volatile time of day until the London market closes. Major US economic indicators are often released during this time, with particularly significant price movements occurring when US employment statistics are announced.
Additionally, the ‘London Fix’ occurs around 1:00 AM the following morning (midnight during daylight saving time), which corresponds to the mid-price in Tokyo time. During this period, the euro and pound often experience significant fluctuations, especially toward the end of the month. Market activity generally calms around 2:00 AM after European trading closes, but large price movements can still occur if the FOMC announces updates or key figures make important statements during the night.
Key Trading Hours
Between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM Japan time, which overlaps with the closing hours of the Oceania and New York markets, there are fewer market participants and price movements tend to be moderate. In particular, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, when the three major markets—Japan, London, and New York—are all closed, trading volume is at its lowest and spreads often widen compared to other periods. Additionally, sudden price fluctuations can occur at any time when important economic indicators are released, so please exercise caution when trading.
-
XM does not prohibit trading during index announcements; however, high-leverage trading intended to trigger stop-losses is not allowed in order to prevent abuse of the zero-cut system. If fraudulent activity is detected, penalties such as account freezing may be applied. Please exercise caution and avoid high-leverage trading during index announcements.
