Required documents for XM -Various certificates available at XM-

The documents required for XM account activation (identity verification) are a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, My Number card) and a current address verification document issued within the last three months (insurance card, resident registration card, utility bill, etc.) . After registering an XM account and completing profile verification, you will need to submit these required documents and complete account activation (approval of ID and current address verification documents) in order to start trading.

At XM, there are no cumbersome procedures such as mailing or faxing identification documents; everything can be completed online or through XM’s official app, the XMTrading app (XM smartphone app) . Account activation usually takes between 30 minutes and one business day, and once your identification and current address verification documents have been approved, you can start trading immediately.


After completing account registration and profile verification, XM will verify your identity by requiring you to submit a valid photo ID, a current address verification document issued within the last three months, and a current address verification document issued within the last three months . After submitting your identity verification documents (ID and current address verification document), your XM real account will be activated once the approval process is completed at XM.

XM accepts identification documents and current address verification documents in Japanese issued in Japan, but there are some documents that cannot be used. Please check the identification documents and current address verification documents that XM accepts in advance and prepare the necessary documents.

What is account activation?

Account activation (identity verification) is the process of verifying that the information you provided when opening a real account is correct by submitting identity verification documents (photo ID and current address verification documents) and then approving your account. Once this verification process is complete, you will be able to use many of XM’s services. The activation process for an XM real account will be completed in approximately 30 minutes to one business day after you submit your identity document and current address verification documents (address verification documents).

XMTrading requires you to submit a current address verification document (address proof document) that can verify your name, current address, issue date, issuer, and document contents all on one document.


Current address verification documents available at XM

The current address verification documents (address proof documents) that can be used by XMTrading are as follows:

If the ID or current address verification document (address proof document) you submit to XMTrading has any deficiencies, such as the necessary information not being confirmed or not being photographed correctly, it will not be accepted. Also, if there are any deficiencies in the submitted certificate image, you will be notified of the deficiency and will be required to resubmit the document, which will cause delays in completing the identity verification process. Please check the following points before taking photos of the required documents.

Digitization of certificates (camera/scanner)

If you would like to digitize your ID or current address verification documents, please take a photo of them with your smartphone or other camera and save it as a digital file. Alternatively, please convert them into document data using a scanner or similar and then upload the digitized file.

When taking photos with a camera (smartphone, etc.)

Take a photo of your various identification documents using your smartphone or digital camera and save it on your smartphone or PC. After taking the photo, please make sure that the photo on your ID and the details on your current address verification document are clearly visible, and that all four corners of the identification document are included (so that the entire document can be seen).

When scanning with a scanner or copier

Scan your various identification documents using a scanner or copier, convert them into digital data, and save them. When scanning, be sure to scan the entire document so that you can see all of the information on your ID photo and current address verification document.

Uploadable image sizes and file formats

The maximum file size for uploading required documents from the XMTrading member page is 5MB in total . Also, the file formats that can be uploaded are JPG, JPEG, PNG, PDF, and GIF . Please check the image size and file format of your ID and current address verification documents (address proof documents) before preparing the required documents.

Currently, the iOS version of the XMTrading app cannot be installed.

In other cases where XM requests additional documents

At XM, the department in charge may request additional documents depending on your trading status, deposit and withdrawal amounts, etc. For example, if the credit card deposit amount exceeds a certain amount, or the number of deposit transactions exceeds five times, the XM department in charge may determine that you are required to submit additional credit card statements or images of your credit card.
